1. Who we are
Cerebral Palsy Community Foundation is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation created to support people affected by cerebral palsy and related severe disabilities through practical assistance, community connection, advocacy, education, technology access, and responsible charitable programs.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, retain, and protect information when you visit our website, submit a request for help, contact us, donate, volunteer, use our forms, or interact with our public materials.
2. Information we may collect
We may collect contact information such as name, email address, phone number, mailing address, preferred language, and relationship to the person who may need support.
When someone requests help, we may collect information about the person with cerebral palsy or related disability, including age, general location, communication needs, mobility needs, caregiving situation, family or guardian information, housing situation, financial circumstances, equipment needs, technology needs, transportation needs, urgency, safety concerns, and a description of requested support.
We may collect donation information such as donor name, contact details, donation amount, donation date, payment status, public recognition preferences, and records needed for receipts, accounting, compliance, and donor communication. Payment card or bank details are normally handled by third-party payment processors and are not intended to be stored by the Foundation.
We may collect volunteer and partner information such as skills, professional background, availability, location, language abilities, organization, references, public profile links if voluntarily provided, and areas of interest.
Our website and service providers may collect technical information such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, referral information, approximate location derived from technical data, and basic analytics or security logs.
3. Sensitive information and medical context
Requests for help may include sensitive disability, health-related, family, financial, and safety information. We ask for this information only when it helps us understand a need, evaluate whether support may be appropriate, coordinate assistance, protect people, document decisions, or comply with law.
The Foundation is not an emergency medical provider. Information submitted through our website or forms should not be used for emergency care, urgent medical advice, or immediate safety intervention. In an emergency, people should contact local emergency services or appropriate crisis resources.
Unless the Foundation later operates in a role that is legally treated as a covered health care provider, health plan, health care clearinghouse, or business associate, information submitted to the Foundation is not intended to create a medical-provider relationship or a clinical medical record. We still treat disability and health-related information with heightened care because dignity requires it.
4. How we use information
We may use information to respond to messages, review requests for help, assess eligibility or priority under Foundation policies, communicate with applicants, families, guardians, donors, volunteers, and partners, coordinate program support, process donations, issue receipts, manage records, publish non-identifying updates, improve the website, prevent fraud or misuse, protect rights and safety, and meet legal, tax, accounting, governance, and reporting obligations.
We may use non-identifying or aggregated information to understand community needs, improve programs, communicate impact, seek grants, and explain why support for people with cerebral palsy matters.
5. How we share information
We may share information with service providers that help us operate the Foundation, including website hosting, email, online forms, document tools, analytics, security, donation processing, accounting, legal, compliance, translation, and program administration providers.
We may share limited information with volunteers, board members, advisors, partner organizations, vendors, or service providers when sharing is reasonably necessary to evaluate a request, coordinate support, protect a participant, complete a donation, manage a volunteer role, or carry out the Foundation’s mission.
We may disclose information when required by law, legal process, tax or regulatory obligations, governance duties, safety concerns, fraud prevention, or protection of the Foundation, participants, donors, volunteers, partners, or the public.
We do not sell personal information. We do not knowingly exchange applicant, participant, donor, or volunteer information for unrelated advertising or commercial profiling.
6. Stories, photos, and public recognition
We will not publish a participant’s name, image, story, diagnosis details, family circumstances, or identifying request information without permission from the person or an appropriate parent, guardian, or authorized representative when required.
Donors may be recognized publicly only when appropriate and consistent with the donor’s communication preferences and our records. Donors may ask to remain anonymous in public-facing materials.
7. Children and guardians
Many people served by the Foundation may be children or adults who need support from a parent, guardian, caregiver, or authorized representative. We expect requests involving minors to be submitted by a parent, guardian, or authorized adult, unless a different process is approved by the Foundation.
If we learn that a child submitted personal information without appropriate involvement from a parent or guardian, we may delete the information or seek appropriate consent, depending on the situation and applicable law.
8. Cookies, analytics, and third-party tools
Our website and third-party tools may use cookies, similar technologies, logs, and analytics to operate the site, understand traffic, improve content, secure systems, and measure outreach. Browser settings may allow users to limit cookies, although some features may not work correctly.
Forms, donations, videos, maps, analytics, email, and other features may be provided by third parties, including Google services and payment processors. Those services may process information under their own privacy policies and terms.
9. Retention and security
We keep information for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this Policy, including program review, participant communication, donation records, tax and accounting records, legal compliance, governance, dispute prevention, safety, and organizational continuity.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No website, form, email system, payment tool, or storage system can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure, so people should avoid sending unnecessary sensitive details.
10. Choices and requests
People may contact us to request access to personal information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion of information, withdrawal from non-essential communications, or limits on certain uses. We will respond in a reasonable manner, subject to identity verification and legal, safety, accounting, donation, governance, and program-record obligations.
A request to delete or limit information may affect our ability to review a request for help, provide support, maintain donation records, or continue a volunteer or partner relationship.
11. International visitors
The Foundation is based in the United States. If a person accesses the website or submits information from outside the United States, information may be processed in the United States or in other locations where our service providers operate.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Foundation grows, programs change, technology changes, or legal requirements develop. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date.
